COMMUNITY

WHO WE HELP

The MāKin Foundation provides access and guidance to diverse and underrepresented students, youth, and professionals pursuing careers in the CRED industry.

Our programs and initiatives are tailored to build an ecosystem focused on education and community growth. We are a people-centric charity invested in and committed to collaboration and partnerships with the CRED industry.

WHY IT MATTERS:

Real estate is about communities. It encompasses all aspects of human interaction and it’s the vehicle that connects people, work, place, play and space. The CRED industry is integral for human connectivity. It is a crucial driving force for the Canadian economy, accounting for over 13% of the GDP of Canada.

Although the CRED industry consists of land and buildings, it is an industry about people, for people by people. Simply stated, real estate is a place for life.

The MāKin Foundation is focused on creating better access to education,

networks and opportunities through promoting and advocating for diverse

and underrepresented youth and professionals in the CRED industry.

THE BUSINESS CASE

With changing Canadian demographics directly impacting the future of workplaces, we must ensure the CRED industry has the best and brightest talent available, and that the industry will not be left behind.

  • 38-52% of the Canadian urban population is non-white.

  • Over 5% of the Canadian population is Indigenous.

  • 34-42% of LGBTQ2S+ people have experienced discrimination in the workplace; the percentage more than doubles (80%) in the case of transpeople.

  • Anti-Semitism is the fastest-growing hate crime, accounting for 29-34% of religious hate in Canada.

In the CRED Workplace:

  • Over 72% of the CRED industry identifies as white.

  • Less than 2% of the CRED industry identifies as Indigenous.

  • Over 85% of C-Suite positions are held by men.

  • 65% of the CRED population identifies as women.
